It was quite the scene in Littleton, Colorado. As rain pummeled the Denver suburb, nasty storm clouds hovered over the mountains to the west, creating some uncertainty amongst those in attendance at Hudson Gardens and Event Center to see Third Eye Blind. The resilient crowd that braved the elements was rewarded however when the band took to the stage right around 8:45pm and opened with “Graduate”, the rowdy rocker from their 1997 multi-platinum selling self-titled debut album. Nearly 25 years after the release of their debut album Ultimate Alternative Wavers, Built to Spill proved that they are still among the best in their craft – no matter how difficult that craft may be to define. Blending catchy hooks and carefully crafted introspective lyrics with guitar driven, sometimes cacophonic extended jamming, neither “grunge”, “punk” or even “jam band” can accurately sum up their sound, though components of all can be heard throughout their 8 album discography. Are the Smashing Pumpkins Planning a 2018 Reunion?

It appears so. Since the original lineup last performed together in 1999, talks of a reunion have been on the mind of just about every Smashing Pumpkins fan. That lineup however, which consisted of constant Billy Corgan, along with guitarist James Iha, bassist D’arcy Wretzky, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain, does not appear to be happening anytime soon.
